Miracle on Lombardy
There is a book entitled “When God Winks at You: How God Speaks Directly to You Through the Power of Coincidence” by Squire Rushnell. You don’t have to be a religious person to look back at some of the situations in your life and have felt the presence of God in the mix.
Well, on August 27, 2025, such an event occurred at Virginia Union University. The University was hosting the author and billionaire Robert F. Smith for a fireside chat to talk about his book “Lead Boldly” and while the conversation was going on, our leader asked about the honorary degree for Mr. Smith. At that very moment, everybody on the leader’s team began to scurry around realizing that there was no honorary degree to present. There was only one person and company that came to mind to handle this task, James E. Henson, Jr., owner of HDH Printing. Once we were made aware that he was miraculously at the fireside chat, he was summoned to the room where we were discussing the dilemma that we were in.
Now for those of you who don't know what the initials (HDH) in his company name stands for, it is “Henson Doesn’t Hesitate.’ From the time that he entered the room, left the Claude G. Perkins Living and Learning Center, and traveled to his printing company downtown, we knew that our dilemma had been solved. He returned within 15 minutes with the coveted honorary degree which was placed in a VUU degree cover. It was presented to Mr. Robert F. Smith, and all of us breathed a sigh of relief.
God really winked on us that day! However, this occurrence also speaks volume to Mr. Henson’s character and professional capabilities as an entrepreneur who will not hesitate to go above and beyond to provide his customers with the highest level of service.

I asked a question did you know 89 million people did not vote in the last presidential election. Gentlemen, we need to do better as far as encouraging, inspiring, educating our people the important of voting. Our ancestors died for our rights to vote. We need to honor that legacy. We need to come up with some suggestions on doing better. That’s my report.
